Paediatricians’ knowledge, perceptions, preparedness and involvement towards paediatric antimicrobial stewardship in Pakistan: findings and the implications

  10 December 2024

A study conducted in Pakistan found that despite having adequate knowledge about antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), there are barriers to implementing antimicrobial stewardship programs. The survey involved 383 paediatricians from all four provinces and the capital territory, with most being male, aged 35 or less, working in tertiary care hospitals, and undertaking daily child consultations. Only 27.4% believed antibiotics were being overused among children, and barriers included a lack of online learning sources, treatment guidelines, and hospital administration support.
